How to Participate in AZ Gives Day and Support Local Nonprofits
Ever felt like you wanted to give back but didn’t know where to start?
AZ Gives Day is the perfect opportunity to make a real difference—right in your own backyard. This annual 24-hour event highlights nonprofits across Arizona and encourages people just like you to donate, volunteer, and get involved.
What Is AZ Gives Day?
AZ Gives Day is a statewide giving campaign that brings individuals and communities together to support the nonprofits that serve our neighborhoods. It’s held every April and helps raise much-needed funds for organizations making a positive impact in Arizona.
But here’s the best part: you don’t have to be wealthy or have lots of time to get involved. Even a small donation or a social media post can go a long way!
1. Find a Cause You Care About
Start by visiting the official AZ Gives Day website. You’ll find a searchable list of local nonprofits based on category—animals, education, healthcare, environment, youth services, and more. Pick a cause that matters to you or explore new ones you haven’t supported before.
Tip: Filter by location to find nonprofits in the East Valley or near your community.
2. Make a Donation (Big or Small)
Whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation counts. Most nonprofits have matching donation opportunities on AZ Gives Day, meaning your money can go even further. You can also set up recurring donations if you want to make a lasting impact throughout the year.
Pro tip: Check if your employer matches donations—it’s an easy way to double your giving!
3. Share and Spread the Word
Not everyone can donate, and that’s okay. You can still support AZ Gives Day by sharing the cause on your social media, texting friends and family, or posting about your favorite nonprofits. Use hashtags like #AZGivesDay and tag the organizations you care about.
Why it matters: Visibility is everything. The more people who know, the more support these nonprofits get.
4. Volunteer Your Time
Many local organizations are looking for help beyond just financial donations. Offer your skills—graphic design, writing, event planning—or sign up for a shift at a food bank or shelter. Some nonprofits even list volunteer opportunities directly on their AZ Gives Day profile.
5. Host a Mini Fundraiser
Want to take things a step further? Start your own fundraising page. Some platforms let you create a personal campaign supporting your favorite nonprofit. Then you can invite your network to donate through your link and track your impact together.
Fun idea: Make it a challenge. Can your friends help you hit your goal in 24 hours?
6. Attend Local Events or Virtual Gatherings
Some East Valley nonprofits host in-person or virtual events for AZ Gives Day—think live performances, Q&As with nonprofit leaders, or community meetups. These events make giving fun and help you feel more connected to the cause.
