Have You Ever Heard These? The Weirdest Real Estate Questions I’ve Ever Been Asked

Let’s face it — real estate is one wild ride. You get to meet all kinds of people, tour all sorts of homes, and... get asked some of the strangest questions you never imagined. Whether it’s an over-curious buyer or a seller with very specific concerns, sometimes all you can do is smile and roll with it.

Here are some of the weirdest real estate questions I’ve ever been asked. Brace yourself — some might leave you scratching your head, and others might just make you laugh out loud.

“Can I Keep the Neighbor’s Dog If They Move?”

Yes, this was a real question. During a home showing, a buyer fell in love... not with the house, but with the neighbor’s golden retriever. After a few polite chuckles, I had to explain: dogs don’t come with the deed — especially if they’re not on your property!

“Will the Ghosts Be Included in the Sale?”

Haunted or not, some buyers are really into paranormal vibes. One potential buyer actually hoped the house was haunted because they wanted a “cool story” for guests. I had to break it to them — spirits aren’t exactly part of the closing paperwork.

“Can I Dig a Moat Around the Property?”

This wasn’t a joke. A buyer genuinely wanted to build a moat for "security and aesthetic reasons." While it’s technically possible, zoning laws and neighbors might have a few thoughts about it. Especially if you’re planning to fill it with alligators...

“Do I Have to Let My In-Laws Visit If I Buy This House?”

This one had nothing to do with the house — and everything to do with family dynamics. As much as I wanted to help with that, I kindly suggested this might be more of a “family chat” than a real estate issue.

“Will the Seller Leave the Mirrors So I Can Check My Aura?”

You never know what’s important to someone. For this buyer, the vintage mirrors in the home were essential for “aura-checking rituals.” Good news — the seller was happy to leave them behind.

“Is It Okay to Sleep in the House Before Buying It?”

Some folks want to really try before they buy. One curious buyer asked if they could spend the night before making an offer — just to see how the “energy” felt. While understandable, that’s a big no-no unless you’ve already got the keys.

“Can I Build a UFO Landing Pad in the Backyard?”

This wasn’t as surprising as it should’ve been. The buyer was very into extraterrestrial visits and wanted to be ready for “contact.” As long as the HOA doesn’t mind — go for it!

“Can You Ask the Seller If the Home Has Good Vibes?”

Real estate is emotional, but this one took it to a new level. The buyer wanted a full “vibe check” before moving forward. While not something you’ll find on an inspection report, we always want buyers to feel emotionally at home too
